Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade
Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance
B2N is a rail duplication project from Beerburrum to Nambour. The works includes the design and construction of the new rail alignment and all the supporting sub-systems for the electrified route. There are interfaces with road upgrades, new bridges over the railway and new park & ride facilities at two stations.
Scope of Engagement
Axess provided specialist client-side systems engineering and safety assurance advisory services for the Beerburrum to Nambour (B2N) project. Axess developed a suite of documents forming part of the Engineering Assurance Framework to assist Queensland Rail in understanding their role and activities, as the Asset Owner and Operator. The B2N project is being delivered by the Department of Transport and Main Roads with Queensland Rail as the rail asset owner. This represents a new approach to rail project delivery in Queensland, which was typically delivered by Queensland Rail in the past.
The scope of works included:
Specialist support across all systems engineering and safety assurance related activities;
Stakeholder consultation to align the Engineering Assurance Framework documents against applicable operational, technical and safety management practices within Queensland Rail;
Facilitated discussions between Queensland Rail and Department of Transport and Main Roads on achievable project assurance to meet Queensland Rail’s requirements;
Review and comment of documents including the systems engineering and safety assurance plans;
Participation in Safety Assurance Working Groups;
Contribution to Hazard Identification (HAZID) Workshops; and
Development of key Queensland Rail systems engineering and safety assurance documents.
